Why it is here

Why Escazú is on the list.

A city is listed when there is evidence that people move there. This is the evidence.

  • A law firm's guide calls Escazú the original favourite expat hotspot for US and European expats in the 1990s, and says the expats who favour it today come mostly from other South and Central American countries; a second law firm's 2026 article describes it as popular with professionals, entrepreneurs and expat families. [E1] [E2]
  • Saint Mary School, in Guachipelín, Escazú, is a bilingual school founded in 1979 that says it obtained IB accreditation in 2015. [Escazú S1]
