Why it is here
Why Sosúa is on the list.
A city is listed when there is evidence that people move there. This is the evidence.
- The International School of Sosúa describes itself as a US-accredited private international school with a community of over 25 nationalities, teaching from early childhood to high school in an English-based programme. [I1]
- A historical record, not a current count: about 800 German and Austrian Jewish refugees received Dominican visas between 1940 and 1945 and settled in Sosúa, where their descendants still live. [M1]

Weak: no residence route for remote workers is in force (a digital nomad visa was a proposal in January 2026), and fixed broadband is 11.20 per 100 people (2024), under the 30 line. The one-year temporary residence on proof of solvency (RT-9) is not a remote-worker route and was not counted.

Retirement
85 of 100StrongCountry figure
Strong on a judgement: pensioners (about US$1,500 a month) and rentistas (about US$2,000 a month) apply under Law 171-07 with no minimum age and no deposit. To be safe, have more than US$1,600 a month. Law 285-04 admits them as permanent residents and gives a definitive card after 10 years, but the DGM pages describe a one-year permit renewed over time. Mixed (50) if that is read as renewable only.

Questions about Sosúa.
How many people live in Sosúa?
Sosúa municipality had 56,982 residents in the 2022 census, up from 49,593 in 2010. The town core has 36,035; the municipality also holds the Cabarete municipal district (16,148) and Sabaneta de Yásica (4,799), so the figure is wider than the town centre.
Is there an international school in Sosúa?
The International School of Sosúa describes itself as a US-accredited private international school, with students of over 25 nationalities, from early childhood to high school in an English-based programme. Its home page does not name the accrediting body, so that is not confirmed. Fees are unknown.
Why is Sosúa known for Jewish history?
Wikipedia says about 800 German and Austrian Jewish refugees received visas from the Dominican government between 1940 and 1945 and settled in Sosúa, and that descendants of the original settlers still live there. That is a historical record, not a count of today's foreign residents.
What is the weather like in Sosúa?

Rain is 131.7 mm in February and 257.6 mm in November. By Fernshore's rule (highs of 30 °C or under, rain under 150 mm), February and March are comfortable.
Where would I find hospital care near Sosúa, and what natural hazards apply?
Canada's government lists Puerto Plata among the places where ambulances are more reliable, and says good health care is only available in major cities. Sosúa is not named. It also says the country is in an active seismic zone, and a tsunami can follow a nearby earthquake within minutes.
