Visas in Argentina
US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand citizens need no visa to enter as tourists. The Montreal, Sydney and Wellington consulates and Smartraveller give up to 90 days, the Houston consulate says three months, and the immigration authority (DNM) describes up to three months for someone entering for rest or leisure, extendable for a similar period. Wellington asks for a passport valid for at least six months from the day you enter, and says New Zealand tourist entry is issued on arrival without charge. Argentina's entry fee for Canadians was suspended on 1 January 2018 and for Australians from 1 July 2017 (the Australian notice is old and undated); we found no current entry fee for any of the four passports but did not read a full fee list. Check your consulate before you travel. [V1] [V2] [V3] [V4] [V5] [V6] [V7] [V8] The tourist category is for rest and leisure: DNM's 2022 disposition says it does not cover the reasons a remote worker stays, which is why the digital nomad category exists. Consulates point people who plan to work remotely to the electronic entry process (TIE 24H), open to nationals of countries that need no tourist visa. DNM says a TIE 24H is resolved in 10 business days, says not to enter the country before it is resolved, and gives the certificate a validity of 3 months for its first use. [V9] [V10] [V5] [V3]

- The tourist category is for rest and leisure: DNM's 2022 disposition says it does not cover the reasons a remote worker stays, which is why the digital nomad category exists. Consulates point people who plan to work remotely to the electronic entry process (TIE 24H), open to nationals of countries that need no tourist visa. - The digital nomad stay (Disposición DNM 758/2022, published 11 May 2022) is a transitory residence of up to 180 days for nationals of countries that need no tourist visa who work remotely for people or companies based abroad. It sets no income minimum. You send a signed application naming the independent work you will do, a short CV, a valid passport, a 4 x 4 photo and proof of the activity (a contract, a company endorsement or proof of a request for work, certifications, or receipts of income or fees) with at least one reference linked to your occupation. Foreign documents must be legalised or apostilled and translated into Spanish by a public translator. We found no text on how an employee of a foreign company is treated, since the application asks for the independent work you will do. [V9] [V11]
- The nomad stay can be extended once, for the same term, so 360 days is the most. You apply within the 10 days before it ends; a late filing within the next 30 days adds a 50% surcharge. The extension needs a valid passport, receipts of income earned in the period, an Argentine criminal record certificate and at least 50% of the term spent in Argentina. DNM's fee table lists the extension at 40 units, ARS 40,000 at ARS 1,000 a unit for non-Mercosur nationals; peso fees change. [V9] [V5] [V12]
- The fee for the nomad entry process depends on where you apply. The Montreal consulate's guide to TIE 24H gives US$120 paid to DNM by card plus US$80 at the consulate, US$200 in all, and the Dublin consulate states EUR 200. DNM's table lists the entry process at 120 consular units, and a consular unit was set at US$1 in 2000, though the foreign ministry can update it. We could not find the fee charged by US, Australian or New Zealand missions (the Sydney page publishes none), so it is unknown for those passports. [V13] [V14] [V12] [V15] [V3]
- Rentista and pensionado are temporary residences of one year, renewable. Both ask for at least five monthly minimum wages for each applicant: about ARS 391,200 from 1 October 2026 makes about ARS 2,000,000 a month (about US$1,293 at the Banco Central rate of 14 October 2026), rising to ARS 1,994,000 on 1 November, ARS 2,032,000 on 1 December and ARS 2,185,000 in April 2027. To be safe, have more than ARS 2,200,000 a month. Rentista income must come from assets held abroad, not pay for personal work, with funds brought in through banks the central bank has authorised; pensionado needs a regular, permanent pension. Both are filed in DNM's RaDEX platform from inside Argentina; DNM's table lists a temporary residence at 100 units, ARS 100,000. Peso figures change monthly. [V16] [V17] [V18] [V19] [V12] [V20]
- Two other routes exist, and neither is a remote-work visa. The migrant worker residence needs a pre-contract with an Argentine employer registered with the tax authority and DNM. A Work and Holiday visa is open to Australians aged 18 to 30 with a completed tertiary qualification or two years of university study (annual quota 1,500; up to 12 months, not renewable) and to New Zealand citizens up to age 35 (quota 1,000; at least US$2,500 in your own bank statements and a US$150 consular fee; the embassy and the foreign ministry word the age limit differently). Both programmes describe work as incidental to a holiday; we found nothing on remote work under them. [V21] [V22] [V23] [V24] [V25]
- The longer-term rules are unsettled. The law as first enacted gave rentistas and pensionados residence of up to three years; DNM's pages say one year. Decreto 616/2010 let people with 3 continuous years of temporary residence ask for permanent residence, but Decreto 366/2025 rewrote the permanent-residence article with a test of sufficient means and no waiting period; whether a new regulation replaced the 3-year rule is unconfirmed. The same decree asks every foreigner seeking admission for a sworn statement of the purpose of the trip and for health insurance, on conditions the regulations set. A June 2026 court ruling annulled its citizenship powers in one case; we found no ruling on the entry rules. [V26] [V27] [V28] [V29] [V30]

Questions about Visas in Argentina.
Do I need a visa to visit Argentina as a US, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand citizen?
No tourist visa is needed for any of the four. Consulates say up to 90 days (Houston says three months), and the immigration authority (DNM) describes up to three months, extendable for a similar period. The tourist category is for rest and leisure, so check your consulate before you plan to work.
How do I extend a tourist stay in Argentina?
DNM describes a tourist stay of up to three months, extendable for a similar period. Extensions are made at DNM's head office (8:00 to 13:00, building 3) or at its delegations and migration offices. We did not read the tourist extension fee, so it is unknown.
Is there a digital nomad visa in Argentina?
Yes: a transitory residence of up to 180 days for people from countries that need no tourist visa who work remotely for people or companies abroad, extendable once for the same term (360 days at most). No income minimum is stated; you show proof of the work. The fee depends on where you apply.
What income does the rentista or pensionado residence need?
At least five monthly minimum wages for each applicant: about ARS 2,000,000 to ARS 2,200,000 a month through April 2027. To be safe, have more than ARS 2,200,000 a month. Rentista income must come from assets abroad, not work; pensionado needs a regular, permanent pension. The wage rises monthly.
What does Argentina ask for at entry since Decreto 366/2025?
The decree asks every foreigner seeking admission for a sworn statement of the trip's purpose and for health insurance, on conditions the regulations set. We could not confirm how checks apply; ask your airline. A June 2026 court ruling on the decree's citizenship powers did not address the health provisions.
