Questions from remote workers about Singapore.
Can I work for my foreign employer from Singapore?
Only with the right pass. The ONE Pass can be applied for from abroad without a Singapore job: a fixed monthly salary for the 12 months before applying (to be safe, more than S$31,000) at an employer with US$500 million market value or US$200 million revenue. Remote work on a visit pass is unconfirmed.
Can an employer of record sponsor me in Singapore?
MOM says no. Work passes are for people working for Singapore-based companies, and an employer of record that applies for one for you would be committing an offence. Your employer would need to hire you on a regular work pass, set up a representative office or incorporate in Singapore.
Is my foreign employer's pay taxed in Singapore?
IRAS taxes the days you work in Singapore even if the pay is not received there. A non-resident is exempt for 60 days or less in a calendar year and pays the higher of 15% or resident rates for 61 to 182 days. At 183 days or more you are taxed at resident rates.
What does a ONE Pass application involve?
MOM lists 12 months of payslips, employment verification from a background screening company and your employer's recent financial information. Most cases are decided within 4 weeks. The fee is S$105 when you apply and S$225 when the pass is issued, and you notify MOM of your income each year by 31 January.
Is Singapore's internet dependable enough for a remote job?
Singapore has 27.81 fixed broadband subscriptions per 100 people (ITU, 2024), which Fernshore grades as mixed. That counts subscriptions, not speeds or call quality, and city speeds are not measured here. Test upload speed and call quality at the exact address before you sign a lease.
