Visas in Cambodia
The investment handbook (July 2023, so about three years old) lists the ordinary E-class visa as single-entry, with a 30-day stay and a validity of 3 months before departure. It can be renewed after entry at the Immigration Department. The handbook says extensions of more than 30 days become multiple-entry; the Ministry's newer table differs (see below). [V1] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the T-class tourist visa as single-entry for 30 days from entry, extendable once, with employment prohibited. The handbook agrees on the 30 days and one renewal, and advises that if you plan to stay in Cambodia you start with a renewable ordinary visa. [V8] [V1]

- The Ministry's visa exemption list (as of 25 September 2026) does not include the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, so passports from all four need a visa. Canada says tourist and business visas allow 30 days from the date of entry. Since 3 October 2026 the Ministry says no visa stickers are put in passports: all approved visas are electronic. [V6] [V2] [V7]
- The Ministry says you can apply for an e-visa on the portal, get a visa on arrival, or have an embassy submit an application by email; the portal's e-visa is accepted only at some entry points. Canada says visas on arrival are issued at international airports and major land crossings (card payment accepted; carry cash in case systems are down). Tourist visas may be extended only once. [V16] [V2] [V7]
- Canada says your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond entry, and beyond any extension period. You must complete the e-Arrival form within 7 days of your scheduled arrival, and an onward or return ticket and proof of sufficient funds are required. [V2]
- The Ministry's table lists the business extension (EB) for employees, freelancers, volunteers and EB holders' dependants, in 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, usually with a stamped employment letter, or for the self-employed a business registration and a self-written stamped letter. It says EB does not grant the right to work and a work permit is still required. The handbook says the same of those wishing to work, and adds spouses and children as covered. [V9] [V1]
- The Ministry's table lists the retirement extension (ER) as generally for people aged 55 or over who are not employed, in 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, with proof of retirement and sufficient funds (for example a pension letter or bank statements) and no work permit required. A private guide (Acclime) also says 55 or above. No income or deposit figure is stated by either, so that amount is unknown here. [V9] [V3]
- The Ministry's table says 1- and 3-month extensions are single-entry and 6- and 12-month ones multiple-entry; job-seeker (EG, 1, 3 or 6 months) is generally single-entry. A private guide (Acclime) agrees; the 2023 handbook says extensions over 30 days become multiple-entry. We use the newer Ministry table. [V9] [V3] [V1]
- Private guides differ on the work permit and the extension: Acclime says the EB can be applied for without a work permit in the first six months or year, with a permit or proof of business needed for the second period, while Kampot.life (March 2026) says an EB needs a work permit, treats remote workers as self-employed and calls this a grey area. The Ministry says only that EB does not grant the right to work. [V3] [V12] [V9]
- The handbook gives an overstay penalty of USD 10 a day. Canada says the daily fine has no limit, and after more than 30 days of overstay you must leave Cambodia as well as pay it. [V4] [V2]
- Canada says foreign nationals must be registered on the Foreigners Presence in Cambodia System (FPCS), and if you do not register you may be denied a visa extension. Your accommodation may register you, or you can self-register through an app if you own the property. [V2]
- In its White Book 2027 the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia recommends an accessible 3-to-6-month entry option for digital nomads and remote professionals, as reported by Cambodge Mag. This is a business group's proposal, not government policy, and no dedicated remote-worker visa was found. [V5]
- Fees: an adviser (KPMG) reports e-visa fees were cut on 1 January 2025 to US$30 (tourist) and US$35 (ordinary), citing a government press release. The Berlin embassy charges EUR 35 (tourist) and EUR 40 (ordinary) for emailed applications, each including a EUR 5 uploading fee. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs fee list the handbook points to could not be opened. [V10] [V16] [V4]
- Extension fees are not published on any official page we could open. A private guide (RetireFinder, October 2026) reports US$45 for 1 month, US$75 for 3, US$155 for 6 and US$285 for 12 months (EB), or US$300 to US$350 through an agent, and cites official bodies without links. These are unconfirmed. [V11]
- A foreigner entering Cambodia for work or business must apply for a work permit within 90 days of entry, and existing permit holders renewed by 31 March in 2026 (KPMG, summarising Notification 038/25; the renewal schedule for 2027 was not found). A 2023 notification says self-employed individuals must also hold a work permit and an employment card, applied for on the Ministry of Labour's online system. [V13] [V14]
- Law firms report fines of up to KHR 12.6 million (about US$3,150) per foreign employee for employers and KHR 50.4 million (about US$12,600) for a self-employed foreigner without a permit. None of the pages we read says whether the rules cover someone working online for an employer or clients abroad, so that is unknown here. [V15] [V14]

Questions about Visas in Cambodia.
What does a Cambodian tourist visa allow, and can I extend it?
The Ministry says the tourist visa (T) is single-entry, 30 days from entry, extendable once, and prohibits employment. Apply for an e-visa on the portal, on arrival, or through an embassy. An adviser reports e-visa fees of US$30 (tourist) and US$35 (ordinary) since 1 January 2025; Berlin charges EUR 35 and EUR 40.
How do I stay in Cambodia for longer than a tourist visa?
Start with the ordinary (E) visa, then extend it inside Cambodia. The Ministry lists EB, ER and ES extensions of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months and EG of 1, 3 or 6, with multiple entry only for 6 and 12 months. A guide reports US$45 (1 month) to US$285 (12); long business renewals need a work permit, per the handbook.
How does the retirement extension (ER) work?
The Ministry lists the ER as generally for people aged 55 or over who are not employed, with proof of retirement and sufficient funds such as a pension letter or bank statements, in 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, and no work permit required. It states no income or deposit figure, so the amount you must show is unknown here.
Can I work, or work remotely, on a Cambodian visa?
The Ministry says the business extension (EB) covers employees and freelancers but does not grant the right to work: a work permit is still required, and the tourist visa prohibits employment. Whether remote work for a foreign employer needs one is not addressed. We found no remote-worker visa.
What happens if I overstay or do not register?
The handbook gives an overstay penalty of USD 10 a day. Canada says the fine has no limit and that after more than 30 days you must also leave. It says foreigners must be registered on the FPCS system or may be denied an extension, and strict rules mean fines, detention and deportation are possible.
