Indonesia's E33G remote worker visa is a one-year limited stay visa for employees of a company set up outside Indonesia, with no sponsor. The income test is about US$60,000 a year; to be safe, have more than US$61,000 a year. Three months of bank statements must also show about US$2,000.

Who it’s for
- The E33G is a limited stay visa that lets you live in Indonesia while you do work for a foreign company. The page also lets you do tourism and visit friends or family, and leave and re-enter while your re-entry permit is valid.
- It asks for an employment agreement with a company established outside Indonesia, so it is written for employees of foreign companies. The portal does not say whether a freelancer's client contracts count. No sponsor is needed, and the page states no age minimum.
- The B1 visa on arrival bars salary, wages or compensation from individuals or companies in Indonesia, and the page does not say whether remote work for a foreign employer is allowed on it. The longer visa is the route the immigration directorate built for that work.
- The directorate's list of purposes for changing a visit permit to a limited stay permit inside Indonesia names expert, worker, clergy, investment, research, education, family, repatriation, second home, medical treatment and humanitarian reasons, and does not name remote work.

Money tests
- The income test is a bank statement showing salary or income of about US$60,000 a year. To be safe, have more than US$61,000 a year.
- You also give a bank statement for the last 3 months showing about US$2,000. To be safe, have more than US$2,100 in the account throughout. The statement can be in your name or a sponsor's name and must show the account holder, the period and the balance.

Documents
- You upload PDF or JPEG files to your account on evisa.imigrasi.go.id: a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond its expiry date, a recent colour photo taken within the last year, a curriculum vitae and a travel itinerary.
- The proof of work is a bank statement showing salary or income and an employment agreement with a company established outside Indonesia. The document list names no police certificate, medical certificate or apostilled document.

Timing
- You apply online through your account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. An officer checks the documents, verifies payment, creates and checks your profile, approves, and issues the visa; the page gives five working days after payment is received.
- The visa is valid for 90 days from issue, which is separate from the length of stay. If you do not use it in that time you need a new visa.
- The limited stay permit and re-entry permit are issued automatically once an immigration officer admits you at the border. Every traveller must also submit an arrival card within three days before arriving.

Fees
- The fee for a one-year stay is IDR 7,000,000. The page lists it as a visa at IDR 500,000, verification at IDR 2,000,000, a limited stay permit at IDR 3,000,000 and a re-entry permit at IDR 1,500,000.
- Bali charges foreign tourists a levy of IDR 150,000. The levy site says holders of a KITAS or KITAP are exempt by showing the card; whether an E33G holder pays before the stay permit is issued is unknown.
Sources: Directorate General of Immigration, Bali Provincial Government (Love Bali). Checked 17 October 2026.
How long it lasts and renewal
- The stay is up to 1 year. The page says the stay permit can be renewed online through the same account and converted to another type of stay permit.
- Immigration's general rules for limited stay permits allow extensions of up to 1 year at a time, up to 5 times in a row, and an application filed and paid before expiry is not counted as an overstay. The E33G page itself gives no limit on renewals.
Sources: Directorate General of Immigration. Checked 17 October 2026.
Path to permanent residence
- The E33G page names no path to permanent residence. The permanent stay permit page lists the activities whose limited stay permits can convert, such as work, investment, family reunification, repatriation and second home, and remote work is not among them.

Tax
- Under the tax directorate's regulation PER-23/PJ/2025, you are a tax resident if you are in Indonesia for more than 183 days within 12 months, or are there during a tax year and intend to live there. Evidence of intent includes a limited stay visa or permit valid for more than 183 days. The E33G is a one-year visa, so it can count as that evidence. No official statement was found on how this applies to the foreign pay of an E33G holder, so the position is unsettled.
- A resident reports worldwide income, can credit foreign tax and pays 5% up to IDR 60 million, 15% up to IDR 250 million, 25% up to IDR 500 million, 30% up to IDR 5 billion and 35% above that, after a non-taxable allowance of IDR 54 million.
- The four-year treatment that taxes only Indonesian income applies to foreigners with certain expertise approved by the tax office, and the article does not say a remote worker qualifies. A foreigner who is not a resident is taxed at 20% of gross Indonesian-source income.

- The portal's selection tool offers US passport holders the E33G without a guarantor. US citizens abroad file on worldwide income; the 2026 foreign earned income exclusion limit is $132,900, and the physical presence test needs 330 full days abroad within 12 months.
- The 1988 US and Indonesia convention is in force; if both countries treat you as resident, Article 4 decides by permanent home, then centre of vital interests, then habitual abode, then citizenship. Foreign accounts above $10,000 in total need an FBAR, and Indonesia is not on the Social Security Administration's list of agreements in force.
